Celebrating July 2nd

Why we have gathered to celebrate the 2nd of July.

Well it’s not Independence Day if it isn’t the 4th of July. Right? We have become accustomed to honoring the 4th with celebration, fireworks, and a good healthy dose of patriotism. But what many American don’t realize is that July 2nd was the day that was supposed to go down in history. After all the 2nd is the day that our forefathers voted for independence. On July 2nd, 1776 the Second Continental Congress voted to approve our resolution of independence. The Declaration of Independence was fleshed out and then approved on July 4th. Historians even debate whether the declaration was even signed before August. On July 3rd, John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail,

“The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.”

On July 2nd, 2011 The Made in the USA Foundation will be celebrating our nations independence with our Made in the USA Hall of Fame event. This awards dinner is in honor of hard working American manufacturers who have helped our country stay independent for hundreds of years. July 2nd is a day to celebrate the Made in the USA holiday.
